To me the ethos of PerlMonks is about helping one another and not solely about Perl. Perhaps you should not have stopped visiting, even though you changed disciplines but maintained your links with the Community. Now you're back it will take just a short time to readjust.
Welcome back who ever you are!

What do you want to do? Get back in the game?
Ii you don't want to fell out of place, you can spend more time here, and spend time hacking. Both ways help. | [reply] |

Want to help with some CPAN modules?
My criteria for good software:
- Does it work?
- Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?

Do you have specific modules in mind? If so, and you think I can help with my amount of experience*, and I can get interested enough in any of them, I put my hand up.
* (Lack of) Qualifications:
- 1 year using Perl 5
- 9 months here
- Can hack C (but little internals experience)
Update: be honest, if I'm not ready to help with CPAN modules, I want to know what I'll need to do to get to that point
Indicators of geekdom:
- You get a kick out of finishing sentences with domain names, because of the syntactic overlap of certain written languages and DNS notation.
- You understood the previous sentence.

Take a look at http://search.cpan.org/~rkinyon/ and see what you like. Helping can be anything from hacking on source to adding tests to fixing documentation to project management. As for experience, I took over my first CPAN module after just a couple years of Perl.

The chatterbox is not about perl. I'd like to say that the whole perlmonks is not about perl either, but apparently it is.

If you are looking for an excuse to delay, say to yourself "I'll wait for Perl6 to jump back in " :-)Seriously, you might want to look thru the Snippets and Code Catacombs and run some of the newer Perl5 scripts to get a feel for what is going on now.

I never knew there was a requirement to use Perl in your paid job to be able to log in to Perlmonks. | [reply] |

You've been away from a neighbourhood for a while, then you come back:
New faces, some folks you knew have moved, there's different music coming out of the windows, the friendly corner shop's been taken over by a supermarket chain...
Give it time, hang around and lurk and observe, explore; some of your old favourite haunts will still be there.
And when the urge to jump in with a response comes , express it!
This signature will be ready by Christmas

Chatterbox is not enough! We need a place to share our sadness and happiness, to paste news, articles, and anything which we've seen and deserve to share to monks.
I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction
