It's the only way I passed history and biology in high school. At the time, I didn't have a way of organizing non-hierarchical data in my head, so I just memorized the book's layout and would use that to job my memory.
I don't know what it's called. I would also be interested in knowing that. You're the first person I've met whose head works this way as well.
My criteria for good software:
- Does it work?
- Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?

I don't know what it's called Visual Memory We all have the ability, but some are better than others, like those with Photographic memory, who are often driven insane by it. So a little is good, alot can be harmful.:-) I remember in High School they gave us Readak( speed reading) course training. Part of the training was remembering by creating an image in your head. So they would give us a list of things to memorize, and we were supposed to make an image, then just picture the image to rattle off the list. Like "coffee, car, bread, dog, child, sun" would be made into a mental image
of a "dog driving a car drinking coffee with a child in the back seat eating bread on a sunny day". Now you know how I got this way. :-)
