I'd have to say I agree with those who don't believe that the mass registration of nicks is a good idea. Now, I can see the point (because it is a big bummer when someone attempts to steal your 'identity' on the Net), but I don't think that it is prudent to go and register a nick on someone's system that you may never use. The Internet is built around anonymity - there is really nothing you can do if someone doesn't have the integrity to show who they really are and decides to go trolling with a nick that is 'yours'. And besides, most of the people here are very good people who wouldn't go start flame wars anyway, so it is usually fairly obvious that it is not the person it seems to be.
