Offering a reply and replying

Oh, Enlightened Ones

I like to look at the existing replies to a node before I even attempt to answer it in case the contribution I could make has already been made.

However, when I load the page with the complete thread of original post and its existing replies, I lose the 'Offer your reply' link on the original post. This means, if I want to reply to the original post and not reply to a sub-thread, I have to go back to the page from whence I have just come.

Is it possible to have the 'Offer your reply' tag on the node page along with the rest? Or is there some meaning in having it as it is that I am too thick to figure out?

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

No, it's just called differently, it's called "Comment on $title"

There's a link to reply to every node that's visible, as far as I can tell. The Seekers of Perl Wisdom page has "[Offer your reply]" next to every node. If you click through to one of them, there's a blue bar between the text and the replies. In that blue bar is a link that says "Comment on" which takes you to a node to write a reply. Additionally, every reply has a "[reply]" link next to it that allows you to reply to that node.

Viewing through NewestNodes gives the opportunity to comment on the original posting or any subsequent answer.

I am not sure I follow.
At the right of each reply, there is a '[reply]' link, along with
    [/msg] [d/l] [select]
Is that what you're looking for?
