I really want to do this, but geing a non green carded brit (for a while longer anyway) I'm not so sure.
Billboard down the road has white on black text saying, "Your kids do what you do. Buckle Up!"

April Fool's silliness
Below is some code that formats tables -- shades
alternate rows -- used in an intranet application internally... yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the code is ugly, but it works, and I didn't know much perl when I wrote it... so please be gentle on this old code!....
Anyway, on April Fools, I set $silly to true using rand about 1 in 10 times.... truly horrible.
nop
sub table {
my $html = shift;
my $i=1;
$html =~ s{<\s*(t\w+)}{
if (lc($1) eq "tr") {$i++; "<tr";}
elsif (lc($1) eq "td") {
(($i%2) == 1) ? '<td bgcolor="#F4FAFF" align="center"' :
'<td bgcolor="#E1f1FF" align="center"';}
elsif (lc($1) eq "th") {
(($i%2) == 1) ? '<th bgcolor="#F4FAFF" align="center"' :
'<th bgcolor="#E1f1FF" align="center"';}
else {"<$1"}
}iegm;
if (!$silly) {return $html;}
my $dir;
$html =~ s{<td.*?>(.*?)<\/td>}{
$dir = (qw(left right up down))[rand()*4];
if (rand()<.2) {
"<td><marquee direction=\"$dir\" behavior=\"alternate\" height
+=\"40\" vspace=\"2\">$1</marquee></td>";
} else {
"<td>$1</td>";
}
}ieg;
return $html;
}

I don't know that this counts, as it was genuinely an accident, and it was only happened to coincide with april fools day, but earlier today I got bored and decided to try cutting my own hair (don't you love stories that start out in the format "I was bored so I did {something with a high chance of turning out wrong}"?). As one may infer from the context, my haircut didn't quite turn out the way I intended. Now, I didn't have anything spectacular in mind in the first place, I just wanted to make it a little shorter. Somewhere along the way I managed to take a conspicuously large slice out of the back of my hair. "Not a problem", I thought. "I'll just make everything around it a little shorter to try and make it blend in." To those of you who have had the sense not to try this, you are justified in your abstention. It turns out that the only way to make something "blend in" with an area that has been shaved down to the scalp is to shave the surrounding area. And, as the goal is still to make everything "blend in", this process has to be done for one's entire head.
I keep trying to convince myself that this was a good April Fools joke on everyone who will see me, but the voices in my head keep snickering and acting like it was their doing. As long as no one else can hear them laughing no one will ever know the truth...
And no, I don't own 27 pairs of sweatpants. | [reply] |
I voted nonexistent because I don't have school now and where's the fun in pranking at home?
I'm pretty sure it's a government conspiracy to keep kids home one april first :-(
Dammnit, I want to be old enough to vote so I can elect funnier politicians ;-)
hmm ... I can't remember an april first where I had school ... strange ... well, maybe my memory is just crapped up.
Merry Christmas and a happy New-Year!

Ok, I'm not sure what the prank is, but I've noticed messages about losing XPs even though I'm gaining XPs. I also found a link that went to the incorrect node. And the link on the top of the page for "Newest Nodes" changed to my last visited node. Are the pranks changing by the moment?
Maybe I should have voted "Probably going to get me arrested".
Update: No, I'm not going crazy! I see now that this node displays:
