in reply to New Message Inbox Feature

I like it; thank you.

Would it be possible to:

  • Default the Archive/Unarchive checkboxes to the current state of the item? For example, if an item is archived, it would be checked by default?

  • Have a small message appear at the top of the CB indicating the number of archived items, one that would not appear if there aren't any archived items?

It wouldn't need to be fancy, just something along the lines of You have x messages archived.

I'm thinking it would be a helpful little reminder if one archives things one needs to do or work on. For example, I've got several items from tilly to remind me of some changes I need to make in a few different things and haven't yet found the time to get them completely finished. (And, yes, I've already thought of sending a /msg to myself to do the same thing. I just thought it would be a further nicety is all.)

Also, what are your thoughts on this idea?

All the ones above the <HR> line are unarchived, the ones below archived. Setting the checkbox makes them move below the line if they are above the line, and above the line if they are below the line.

And it does tell you the number of messages in your inbox, already, although it you have more than 10, it indicates the number of archived and unarchived messages. I'm sort of against adding more text, because the point of the display was to be able to keep messages, and reduce the amount of scrolling to get down to the "useful" chatter in the chatterbox (although somedays, no amount of scrolling would help...)

I'd rather drop the "in your message inbox" text, have both counts, and have the link to the inbox available all of the time, not just when I have more than 10 messages. In fact, I'd just put this in the heading for the nodelet (unless the nodelets mechanics doesn't make that easy).
