Hardwood is about as good as it gets, although bamboo seems to be a good alternative. My sister-in-law has granite in her kitchen and dining room. It looks fantastic, is easy to clean, and is roughly as slippery as oiled ice when wet.

It's also cold, even through my shoes and socks, in the winter.
