When Damian came to Lisbon

by cog (Parson)

One day, someone told somebody else:

- Damian Conway is a great speaker. If you're ever in the vicinity of one of his talks, say 2,000 miles, you should go there!

Eventually, TheDamian came to Lisbon, and when he presented his "Life, the Universe and Everything" talk, that somebody was in the audience.

After the talk, that somebody joined the Lisbon Perl Mongers mailing list.

A year later, Damian returned to Lisbon and, sure enough, when he presented his "Quantum::Superpositions" talk, that somebody was there again.

After the talk, that somebody came to me and said:

- OK... Where should I start learning Perl?

And that is the kind of thing that happens when Damian comes to town.

Oh yes. My wife is a recovering physicist, and she was with me at YAPC 19100 when Damian did his first QS talk. It was priceless to watch the combination of admiration, disbelief, and joy on her face as he proceeded to get all the physics right and be entertaining at the same time.
that gets a vote just for the phrase "my wife is a recovering physicist"!
