in reply to The best Doctor:

How about Dr. Johnny Fever?

"Thanks for that on-the-spot report, Les. For those of you who just tuned in, the Pinedale Shopping Mall has just been bombed with live turkeys. Film at 11."

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!". - Les Nesmith.
Actually, it was Mr. Carlson (played by the late Gordon Jump) who said that; and the newsman's name was Les Nesman.

But yeah, that might have been the funniest moment in TV history. Outside of politics, of course.

gregor42 was also kind enough to point this out to me. Thanks, both of you, for the memory jog.
Was it Les (echoing the reporting of the Hindenberg fire) who said "Oh, the humanity of it all!" when he saw the turkeys falling, or is memory playing more tricks on me?
"the funniest moment in TV history"? It's a toss-up between this, and Chuckles the Clown (dressed as Peter Peanut) being shelled to death by an elephant in The Mary Tyler Moore Show. 8-)
