Hearthstone has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have the 3rd edition. While browsing a book store I saw the 4th edition which covers Perl 5.8. Does anyone recommend picking up 4th ed, or will 3rd ed (5.6) serve just as well? Is a 5th ed. right around the corner?

    We are not currently planning any more updates for Learning Perl for Perl5. We're currently developing the outline and some initial writing for Learning Perl for Perl 6.

    I won't answer the "should I get 4th if I have 3rd", as my answer would be biased. {grin}

      exciting!! Shall I ask you for the exact date to be published?

      I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction

    Shouldn't you be using the Camel book now?

    Take a look at the updates. I don't think there is much to warrant a new copy. Sorry Merlyn. ;P

    Save your money for the Learning Perl 6 edition. Is that better Merlyn? ;)

      You can check out the chapters of the upcoming book Learning Perl 6 as they are being written. Also available online is the book Mastering Perl by brian d foy, to be published by O'Reilly this summer.

      :)))))
