The PerlMonks FAQ contains a lot of information about this site. You may find it helpful.
To find out more about NodeReaper and the consideration process, see the following nodes:
Also, please don't forget about Super Search. In many instances, you can find the answer faster by simply searching than by posting a node and waiting for replies.

I just wanted to say: I approved the OP in this thread because of the quality and informativeness of the replies. Thanks, Monks!

Do not question NodeReaper. He has been doing serious hacking since you were in diapers ... when men were men and the only computer in the world filled the hangar formerly used to build Howard Hughes' Blue Spruce (all vacuum tubes you know --- no not Howard nor the Spruce but the computer). NodeReaper has 666 years experience and 42 degrees -- all from questionable online institutions, but sill forty-effing-two.

If a node of yours is "considered" by an upper-level monk and enough people have down-voted it without a certain number of upvotes, the node is automatically "reaped". The "user" that does this auto-reaping is the Nodereaper. It is no different from a user on a Unix system that just runs daemons, like 'adm'. Other times, your node might be reaped by one of the Janitors (monks who have been entrusted with a certain set of responsabilities).
My criteria for good software:
- Does it work?
- Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?

It occurs to me that the logical place for people to find this kind of info would be on Nodereaper's homenode ... prior to the current terse list of "Nodes I especially like to sneer at"
Would someone with the ability to do so mind adding such text?

Granted I'm a Terry Pratchett fan, I've thought that maybe Nodereaper on the CB should TALK IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

From that node you linked to:
[NodeReaper] places a link to a location where you can visit the old node and the reason it was considered for deletion if one was provided. He also /msg's the owner of the node telling them what has occurred.
Oh my. I just had a chill run down the back of my neck!
I've heard whispers in the halls of the Monastery that, at midnight, every halloween night, a lone wraithlike cron task rouses the NodeReaper out of his pallid slumber to /msg a number of randomly-chosen monks, thus causing them to age by one year and to get ten new gray hairs (gray hairs replace non-grays, hair locations chosen at random, please allow 4 to 6 weeks for hairs to arrive, offer not valid in Alaska and Hawaii).
Now, what would be funny is if he accidentally /msg'd the Vote Fairy. That guy's got a chip on his shoulder (since everyone assumes he's a she) and he doesn't take any shenanigans from anybody -- corporeal or not!
