I carefully nestle my bagel between CPUs and wait for a few seconds to give it that nice golden-brown color. Then I remove it, add some cream cheese and grape jelly. I then enjoy it with a nice cappucino. Then I carefully brush the crumbs off my motherboard, and I'm ready to start the new day! ...roboticus	[reply]

We say "Cheers!" at every meal, based on the tradition our youngest started when he was 3 (he's 7 now). For toasting with friends, I typically use "To Absent Friends", with a nod to Dr. F. N. Furter. Otherwise, put the bread on a stick and over an open fire is nice. ;) tubaandy	[reply]

Poking a fork around inside is the usual way to debug a toaster. `:-)` I was thinking along the lines of the Sting song, "Englishman in New York" which I believe is about Quentin Crisp. in the past I have used any of "Santé", "tchin tchin" (it seems the expression is quite old and was used in the middle age, it is used in Spain and France and I see from another post in Portugal) and "cheers!". these days I use "to Perl6!" ;) cheers --stephan	[reply]

Interesting. Didn't know people actually toasted to the word "cheers". I'd always figured "cheers" was a slang term -- a sort of meta-toast -- that was used more as a figure of speech, or possibly used in a sarcastic manner, such as, "Well, it's 11 pm, the server's down, and we're stuck here until it's fixed. {raises cup of cold coffee} Cheers.". This is dynamically influenced by geographical context. (i.e. Which side of 'the pond' you're on) Similar rules apply to usage of other common terms, for example "lift" as signifying an elevator system or something put on the bottom of one's shoe to make them appear taller. i'm czech and there it spells na zdravi(recognize the I), what they wrote here above sounds more russian (na zdrOve) or slovenian (some other slavic tongue) to me.
