The Dutch will most likely use Proost! or Gezondheid!, but I voted for the nordic Skoal!, as I actually do use that.

    Being Portuguese, I toast Tchin-Tchin! :-)
Me too, despite me being english my lady is Brazillian :D bom dia ! muito cerveja. desoulpa nao falo Portugese (i struggle with Perl ;)
Let's see if I understand this...

You were given the opportunity in life to learn a few Portuguese sentences...

And the ones you chose were:

        • Good morning.
        • Lots of beer.
        • Sorry, I don't speak Portuguese.

Well, you definitely qualify as a Perl programmer... O:-)

    Definitely "kampai"!

It means "dry glass" (as in "drink till your glass is dry") in Japanese.

    s''(q.S:$/9=(T1';s;(..)(..);$..=substr+crypt($1,$2),2,3;eg;print$..$/
      Definitely! ;)

I am trying to improve my English skills, if you see a mistake please feel free to reply or /msg me a correction

I carefully nestle my bagel between CPUs and wait for a few seconds to give it that nice golden-brown color. Then I remove it, add some cream cheese and grape jelly. I then enjoy it with a nice cappucino.

Then I carefully brush the crumbs off my motherboard, and I'm ready to start the new day!

    ...roboticus

That used to be the main advantage of Intel processors, but now they are losing it.

We say "Cheers!" at every meal, based on the tradition our youngest started when he was 3 (he's 7 now).

For toasting with friends, I typically use "To Absent Friends", with a nod to Dr. F. N. Furter.

Otherwise, put the bread on a stick and over an open fire is nice. ;)

    On one side only.

    --
    John.

Yeah, I've got a toaster like that, too. I really need to get some time to fix it.

      ...roboticus

Poking a fork around inside is the usual way to debug a toaster. :-)

I was thinking along the lines of the Sting song, "Englishman in New York" which I believe is about Quentin Crisp.

I don't drink coffee I take tea my dear
I like my toast done on one side

However, I am not an Englishman, I don't live in New York and I don't like Sting. I like toast though.

Ususally skål, in deference to my ancestors, or "Here's mud in your eye", in memory of the land of my birth, or "Chin" if I just want to go with the crowd, or else somewhere between 3 and 4, depending on how fresh the bread is, and how much use the toaster's seen in the last few minutes, because these days the thermostat is a little flakey.

I toast with Heywood Banks. Yeah toast!

BTW, if you haven't seen Heywood live, do so, even if you have to mortgage the house to do it. Watching him playing the Tastemaster four-slice toaster in the crumb-tray-down position is worth the price of admission, but add to it his tribute to the Garden Weasel, and you'll wet yourself with laughter.

Re: How I toast:
by j3 (Friar) on Apr 14, 2007 at 00:24 UTC

Interesting. Didn't know people actually toasted to the word "cheers". I'd always figured "cheers" was a slang term -- a sort of meta-toast -- that was used more as a figure of speech, or possibly used in a sarcastic manner, such as, "Well, it's 11 pm, the server's down, and we're stuck here until it's fixed. {raises cup of cold coffee} Cheers.".

This is dynamically influenced by geographical context. (i.e. Which side of 'the pond' you're on)

Similar rules apply to usage of other common terms, for example "lift" as signifying an elevator system or something put on the bottom of one's shoe to make them appear taller. (see also, "Rubber")

    Na zdrave!

I'm not Czech, mind you, but in the not too distant past I directed a production of Karel Capek's R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), and we decided it would be fun to have the characters toasting in Czech. It just kind of stuck.

i'm czech and there it spells na zdravi(recognize the I), what they wrote here above sounds more russian (na zdrOve) or slovenian (some other slavic tongue) to me.

If you want it really with original czech charme use the form zdravicko (spell zdrawitchk'o with weight on the long vi (no offense emacs users))

Depending on with whom I'm toasting and my mood, it's likely to be one of the following:
    • Bottoms up!
    • To those we love
    • Long life and much love
    • Now and hopefully soon again
    • These are the best of times, my friends, for we drink together
    • Better tomorrows
    • Long live freedom
    • Don't spill
    • To cheap beer
    • To good beer
    • To good liquor
    • To our livers
