Not much exciting to say... I've been using Perl since the late 1990's. (Well, on and off since then.) Started using it to handle sysadmin tasks on the mail servers at the university. I do not consider myself a professional programmer because I don't spend 100% of my time at work programming and there is so much that I still don't know (or understand).

I do enjoy learning as much as I can though... :-)

So why did I choose regexes as my user name? Simply because I find regular expressions great.

I get around with regexes on an intermediate level but am always on the lookout as to where else I can implement them. There are some flags, options, etc.. which I have not had the opportunity to try yet. ;-) Besides perlretut and perlre, I found the Mastering Regular Expressions book to be informative.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

The foolish man
thinks he will live forever
if he avoids battle;
but old age gives
him no peace,
though spears might spare him.
