Well ... at least the bug has now been reported, so someone might be able to fix it.

It's conceivable that it's a MakeMaker bug, so you might find success by upgrading/downgrading your ExtUtils::MakeMaker installation. (No guarantees, of course :-)

syphilis , you are an insightful genius, I upgraded ExtUtils::MakeMaker to the latest 6.31 ( from 6.2.1) and it's working. Thanks again. I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. Cogito ergo sum a bum	[reply]

I'm an inciteful idiot, with lots of luck - except when it comes to anything useful (like winning lotteries :-) I know that there's one PDL porter in particular who regularly checks the rt.cpan.org bug reports - so please update your bug report to save him unnecessary grief.
