    I know you were just trying to make(1) a joke, but PCRE is not really perl regexes at all (it's from the language who's name I dare not speak)

      Huh???, You are wrong mistaken. PCRE is in fact a stand alone project that had nothing to do with the PHPatchwork other than PHP decided to use lpcre since they couldn't find a shell script to do it. PCRE was in fact created as a Perl Compatible Regular Expressions library for C

        I'll resist the urge to be a pedant, and say that I never mentioned PHP, and skip right on to ++brig for telling me stuff I didn't know.

        I do enjoy a bit of software history...
