How fast (landspeed) do helicopters go? I wouldn't think terribly fast, unless of course you're either Jan-Michael Vincent back in 1984, or at least hopping a ride in airwolf.

How fast (landspeed) do helicopters go?

    Faster than rush hour traffic.

I guess that depends on your definition of "rush hour traffic".

For instance, for me to get to my (soon to be prior) job, if I take public transportation, it takes me anywhere from :45 (on a REALLY good day) to 1:30 (on a bad day).

If I drive during rush hour, it takes anywhere from :25 to :35, but costs a little over twice as much.

If I drive on a saturday, with no competing sporting events to clog traffic, :10, and since I can park at a meter instead of in a garage, costs less than either..

Yet I live 6 miles from the office...

I maintain that unless I'm riding in airwolf, it wouldn't be less time. Think of what happens if air traffic over Chicago isn't clear, or the extra time to call for and ride the elevator down from the nearest building with a helipad...

      ;-)

I guess that depends on your definition of "rush hour traffic".

My definition is the traffic that affects me in So. California (LA/Orange/San Diego Counties). And rush "hour" can be a misnomer, since the traffic can likely last all day.

        I wasn't talking about you :-)
