in reply to I couldn't resist

First one is a limerick. Rhyme scheme is A-A-B-B-A. The key is the metrical feet: two long and one short (aka anapest metrical foot). A metrical foot is roughly (but not quite) equivalent to a syllable. The line lengths (by metrical foot): 3,3,2,2,3.

The second is a haiku that uses a 5-7-5 metrical pattern (typically there is no rhyme in a haiku).

And yes, I was an English major, specializing in Creative Writing - so I wrote many, many haiku's and such :-) I'm still recovering.

Thank you very much for the education. I knew the second was a haiku (My Mom taught me the form). I put up another Limerick, I hope you see it!
