Mr. Simmons (ni-s@cpan) author of Perl/Tk has passed away.

UPDATE: Doh, renodino beat me to it while I tried to track down verification.

    That's a real shock...

Perl/Tk has been a hobby of mine for since 1998 or so, it inspired me and provided an outlet for me to contribute in some limited fashion to the open source community. Nick's work provided me with countless hours of frustration, fascination, and plenty of satisfaction with some of the applications I was able to assemble for myself and clients. The source code served as an introduction to some of Perl's internals, and also a springboard to learning WxWidgets, Qt, Win32::GUI, and other GUI toolkits. While I may prefer other toolkits to Perl/Tk today, it was the first one that sparked my interest, and possibly one of the reasons why I haven't moved on from Perl.

I have nothing but admiration for Nick, his accomplishments, and what he gave to the community. My condolences to his family and close friends. His presence will be missed...
