jdtoronto has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Esteemed monks,

I hope this is close enough to topical, even though it only relates to a problem I am having with ActiveStates PDK tools. Or so it appears.

Ocassionally I get an error:

Perl lib version (v5.8.8) doesn't match executable version (v5.8.7) at + /PerlApp/Config.pm line 46. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /PerlApp/FindBin.pm line 99. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at gc_002.pl line 13.
This has been happening on and off for about two years, and only ever with one or two machines out of about 1600. But for one user it is happening once every 8 or 10 executions of the exe. I have asked on the ActiveState PDK list, but no response, I have re-posted it there, but thought I should try here as well.

I have noticed Perlapp is little more literal about expecting PMs to be a certain way. When I ran into those errors I usually get rid of the message by reloading the module.

    Question

I'm getting the error "Perl lib version () doesn't match executable version ()". What's wrong? Answer

If you recieve an error that looks like the following:

"Perl lib version (v5.8.3) doesn't match executable version (v5.8.4) at /PerlApp/Config.pm line 32. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at perlapp.pl line 859."

It's possible that you've installed a recent version of the PDK without first uninstalling the older version. This is not recommended.

    To correct the problem:

    * Uninstall all versions of the PDK * Ensure the PDK installation directory has been removed. If necessary, delete it manually * reinstall the latest version of the PDK
