in thread sendmail AND color

Other options that come to my mind besides HTML, are RTF (mime-type: application/rtf), or SVG? (mime-type: image/svg+xml).

I'd advice the OP to learn something about how to send MIME email, pick a mime-type that supports colored text and use a module like MIME::Lite to send off the colored-text containing message.

    I can't iamgine that someone who objects to HTML e-mail is going to be happy with RTF or SVG. I admit though, it was a flippant answer and not very helpful.

    use Term::ANSIColor; print color("red"), "Stop!\n", color("reset"); print color("green"), "Go!\n", color("reset");
      That's a nice one too, but I think it'll only work if the email is read in a text-based email client in a (UNIX) terminal window that supports the color escape characters (that a setup quite a small fraction of the world population uses for reading their email).
