Intelligent ctags for perl in vim

imp has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm looking for a way to have ctags handle perl scripts/modules intelligently - by building the tags based on the modules that are loaded. Does anyone know a good way to do this?

Solution criteria:

Uses the specified perl binary (from the shebang)
Uses the module that is in the @INC path for this perl
Preferrably descends into modules loaded by the explicitly used modules.

You may want to have a look at a script named pltags.pl, which is distributed with vim. Editing features for advanced users tells more about that.	[reply]

I refactored pltags.pl into a module `Perl::Tags`, which I've not got around to releasing, but lives in my svn at http://greenokapi.net/svn/.vim/perllib/Perl/Tags.pm One of the enhancements over plain old pltags.pl is descending into @INC using a not particularly sophisticated algorithm (looking for lines that look like use directives). If you grub around the rest of the .vim directory you can see how I use it in vim - it's probably not very elegant but it's quite powerful. update 2007-07-03: bundled up, documented, (but not really tested) at http://search.cpan.org/~osfameron/Perl-Tags/ Cheerio! Imp, Are there any more ideas where that one came from? osfameron's implementation ROCKS!! It allows me to flit freely in and out between my garden of code and the jungle outside the gate.	[reply]

Devel::PerlySense is supposed to do this in emacs and waits for somebody using the API for a VI frontend. Cheers Rolf	[reply]
