  • a tool that makes web administration easier
  • a toy (eg look at the Perl Tutor or at Stage Names)
  • something that spawned an active and friendly community
  • a programming language that is usable with many levels of skill
  • Perl has lead me to Linux, as I came from using word processors on dos/win* only
