Hmm....
That tells me that the same request was asked in 2002, 2003, 2004, and about the same time in 2005. So I guess I've just made the token yearly request for the same feature. None of those other requests ended in a solution either, and while 'Recently Active Threads' is nice, it's not the answer either.
You could say it's been discussed before. Or you could ask why people still want it. The need doesn't appear to have gone out of style (in over 4 years). Guess this goes back in the oven 'til next year...

Since it doesn't seem that this feature is really ever going to make it into production (for a variety of reasons), I recommend the following alternative:
Write a script that:
- Uses the user nodes info xml generator ticker to fetch and store a list of all your nodes, and periodically updates the list (maybe a few times a day, for example)
- Queries xml node thread or newest nodes xml generator to check to see if there are any new nodes in the threads in which you're participating.
- Via send chatter send yourself a /msg notifying you of the activity in the threads in which you're participating.
Then, post your script here in the Cool Uses section, or maybe the Code section, and rake in a few well-earned XP. Post a link to it in this thread too.
It would be a fun exercise, and you would learn a lot about the Monastery's XML tickers. Parse the various tickers with XML::Twig's "simple" interface.

A script is one thing, but for me such a beast has to be somehow part of the site. Seems to be a good candidate for the free nodelet and a javascript hack. let me see...
Update:
How about the following: via a button in the free nodelet one can invoke a javascript that
- calls [Recently Active Threads] in full thread mode
- builds a list of all root nodes in which the user has participated
- calls [Recently Active Threads] in Root-and-Node mode
- builds a list of all root nodes
- calculates the intersection of both lists
- prints those nodes as links to the free nodelet
This would have the advantage that the effect would get be affected by the "last checked" setting. mmh, maybe also provide a "have seen them all" button in the nodelet? Comments welcome.

My minimalist solution is to use some custom CSS to assign my username a unique color, easily identifiable in Recently Active Threads. Granted, that works best when I am the OP, but you should be able to tweak RAT's settings to give you greater depth, etc.
I second davido's idea, though - code something up, post it, rake in megaXP... ;-)
