What to put as your coveted image?

by Gavin (Archbishop)
on May 19, 2006 at 13:00 UTC ( [id://550480]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Before I decided what to place as my coveted image I looked at some other users pages.
Most are self explanatory or at least one can guess, self portrait, partner or loved one, mine for example is a DVD cover for the Get Carter Movie I did some time ago using Freehand for a project.
Others are more obscure and some very puzzling!

This one ! beats me baztastic anyone any ideas ? lion eating a toy donkey?
Anyone have an interesting story about their choice of image?
UPDATE
Could it be a camel eating a toy llama!

I'm a bit shy, so instead of a self-image I put one up of my friend Roger - a wannabe Perl programmer who hasn't quite caught on yet ;)
      Roger is very cute :)

I just went w/a self portrait of a favorite non-perl activity (yes, there are some ;) )

i may not have identified it outside of a perl context, but looks like a dead camel to me..
My initial thought was passed out wookie, but I have to second your vote for a dead or passed out camel.

Looks like it's a single animal, a camel facing upwards. I think you're mistaking the nostrils for the eyes of a lighter-colored, second animal.

I decided to put my 'savior' as my image. Rarely does a day pass without me brewing it up.

While I did not go to University of Delaware, (I went to Illinois Institute of Technology, on the South Side of the Great City of Chicago), I did start programming with punched cards.

They were quite good at enforcing the "80 column rule" some people insist upon for code formatting. Of course, because of punched cards, I generally fail to abide by this rule.

I put an image of myself dressed as a monk. (I'm third from front.)

The story about mine is not terribly interesting - and shortly explained in my homenode itself. Basically I have resisted the temptation to submit a coveted image for quite a long time. Then I happened to have a picture taken at the marriage of one of my friends. So I just resized it, uploaded it and decided that it's going to stay there.

I found a great pic of my favorite Quantum Mechanic.

Hopefully he will inspire others the way he has inspired me.

Quantum Mechanics: The dreams stuff is made of

Some people find quantum mechanics just a bohr . . .

Sorry, I couldn't resist; just my quarky sense of humor I guess.

(I could continue stringing together more geeky puns but I probably should move on to Greener pastures . . .)

Are you trying to Mach us? I think quantum mechanics is just fine, man...

George Gamow, the physicist, was a notorious punster. He once wrote a paper with another physicist, by the name of Alpher. They found a third person, a friend of Gamow, to contribute his name, even though he hadn't contributed anything to the article. His name was Hans Bethe. So you had the Alpher-Bethe-Gamow Paper...

mine is just a pencil self portrait (because I'm much better looking in pencil). It initially captured my receeding hairline perfectly but then I changed it when we had silly hat week (I should change it back but we're only a few weeks away from the second annual silly hat week).

My home node pic is a kid in a Darth Vader suit holding a light saber. One of these days I'll change it again, but it will likely be to something with no relation to any of my previous images.

Speaking of coveted images, some monk out there has one that I found very amusing for some weird reason; but I lost the name of the monk. The picture was of a guy in black motorcycle riding gear, helmet and all, riding a playground toy in an extreme action pose. I'd be grateful if anyone knows of this monk's home node.
      Withigo,
Monks change their user images so there is the possibility it isn't around anymore. I don't recall the image you are referring to and I spend a lot of time reading monk's homenodes but if you want to check - you can see all the monk's photos here.

My user image is my 6-year old, holding up the vanity plate I had just gotten that day for my motorcycle.  I used her image again as the medium for Vocal Japh.

A couple of times I tried to get my 2-year old to stand still long enough to get her into the picture, but as usual she refused to cooperate.  I did use a picture we had of her for Latent Japh, though.

Every once in a while I check out the full set of monks' pictures (thanks bart, for reminding me of the link), and enjoy seeing the variety and individuality it represents.

My current homenode pic is a picture of myself standing next to a Global Hawk UAV. I also have a couple of other pictures from my trip to the Middle East. One with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and one with the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders.
