Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Does anybody know how to create a shortcut file, a desired (not default) icon plus URL in it, so the user can download it in one step to her desktop and click the shortcut to the URL?

Thanks in advance.

    Is this Perl??
are you sure you posted inside the right WebSite??
anyway... it is really a text file that contains this:
    [DEFAULT] BASEURL= [InternetShortcut] URL= IconIndex=4 IconFile=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\url.dll
    try it.

You'll also want to make sure the user saves it with a .url extension. This will also only work on IE, I think.

I would do this to supply a default filename:
      my $filename = 'internetshortcut.url'; print "Content-disposition: filename=$filename\n"; print "Content-Type: text/plain\n\n"; # print the content of the URL file.
The user will be prompted to save the file with the supplied default filename.

      $code or die
