We're obviously talking Winter Olympics here ;)
Having lived most of my life in the tropics I haven't a clue what half of these are, but if I had to choose one I'd say that bobsledding has always looked like it would be fun ;) (who can ever forget the Jamacian Bobsled Team?)
The only problem for me is that (like the Jamaicans) I'd have to travel half-way around the world to find some snow/ice to do it in :p | [reply] |

I tried to convince some guys in Belize that they should enter a hockey team in the Olympics :-D

I don't know who in their right mind would find going 70mph down a giant death trap head first "fun". I pick Skeleton!

Curling is the nearest thing to my sport of choice, Ten-Pin Bowling, not that I'd ever actually get onto ice, that stuff is slipery, cold and hard.

It is simply the sport closest to what I actually do. Huge rocks thrown by other people, barreling down the narrow lane I'm in, I'm standing on ice, and all I've got is a broom. Oh, and they want me to make their throw into a score. And there are more rocks coming.

Curling is too much like sweeping, and I have to do that regularly. What next, ironing as an Olympic event?

In my case, I always thought that I would love to compete in speed skating long track even though I've never actually done any speed skating (though I can only turn left on skates).
So if we're talking talent-wise (for the little talent I have), I'd have to say : I prefer to just watch.. I'm a summer boy. | [reply] |

Curling, kinda like a bar game, but really an Olympic sport!
Used to live in Green Bay and this seems to be standard event:
Green Bay Curling Bonspiel. Lets focus on a few words near the top: "Free beer and snacks all weekend". Where do I sign up? Oh, that IS where you sign up...

Having imported myself into Norway, I feel obliged to select one of the national sports here. Since I'm not a great shooter, the Nordic Combined is out of my league. That means I'd settle for cross-country skiing.
Being Dutch by birth, I'd have to select speed skating, but I haven't done that in at least 10 years. Pity, because I really liked it.
By the way, we haven't had nearly enough snow here this year to go skiing. I'm terribly disappointed about this winter!
And yes, I am a winter person. Even during the summer I prefer to go into the mountains, looking for snow and ice. I do like the sun, but only on the rocks :) | [reply] |

I'm surprised at the responses.
Curling is the ultimate sport, apparently. First you slide a bunch of rocks around (OK, no big deal yet). Then you retreat to the bar to talk about your match, drink beer, and watch other idiots slide their rocks around. (Oh, I think there's scoring involved somehow. For the rocks, not the brew.)

Well, yes... curing does seem to be the ultimate... as opposed to kicking or throwing some round object around, possibly running into one another and gettin injured, then retreating to the bar to talk about it. Or two guys punching each other until one of them falls down or dies, and then you retreat to the bar to talk about it.
I feel this is inefficient. Just start at the bar, and forget all about the bunch of rocks, the round objects, the punching, etc. And yes, score the brew...

Nordic combined? Skeleton? I've really no idea what these might be. Curling is something I do when going to sleep at night, right?
Ice skating, though, is something I'm practically required by law to know about, being a fairly recent resident of Skating Land (netherlands) | [reply] |

My heart says "luge!".
My brain says curling is good, although anything involving brooms is too close to household chores.

I wouldn't compete in an olympic event. I can't. I'm not and will never be good enough for that; and if you're like 99% of the populace, neither are you, no matter who you are.
The only people qualified to compete in an Olympic event are the people who have been training, since shortly after birth, for the Olympics.
It takes a huge amount of time, dedication, training, native talent, and luck to reach the Olympics. You need to train for years on end; you need to have talented coaching; you need to push yourself to your limits and past, repeatly, and be lucky enough not to break every time you do it.
For every Olympic athelete, there's 100 people who didn't make it: people who tried their best and burned out: blew out their knees, tore up their bodies, ruined their edge while trying to sharpen it that last little bit. People who got tired of the pain, of the 5:00 am training sessions, of breaking their bodies down and rebuilding them on a constant basis.
You go compete in the Olympics, if you want. Me, I'll take a nice, comfy nap. :-)
