The solution to your second requirement is a Perl obfuscator. None of them are perfect but I think a good one is likely to make the code harder to understand.
However, I doubt this will really improve your situation. Your clients will quickly realize what you're up to and most likely demand you cut it out. Giving your client something that they can't possibly maintain if you get hit by a bus isn't very nice. -sam
