Re: Missing an option

    Your missing an option.

    "I never leave home"

As far as commuting to work, I don't. I work at home. All my time spent in the car, is to get away from work/home, so it's not really commuting, just aimless driving to get away from work.

Well, if you're already home, you can't "go home" until you leave. And if you never leave home, you never go home, either.

So the correct poll option for you would be: "I never go home". :-)

being unemployed gives certan advantages. one being a rather short and cheap commute into the kitchen. if i had an actual job it would be (as it has been in the past) by bicycle.

Muenster, the place where I live, is famous for the many bikes everywhere, it often looks like in Amsterdam or Beijing, but for quite some years I mostly move around on inline skates, except when the streets are icy like this week.

Different generations, different transportations: my grandfather always walked to the nearby factory, my father used his own car for decades, then started using the train. Now with increasing oil prices and taxes, car pools will probably get more popular in the near future.

Commute is hardly the word...

    It's about a six-minute walk. I love living in a small town.

By carpool, occasionally with a 20 minute walk added.

I tried biking one day, took me two hours. Oh well...

    Combined bike and train.
Bike to train station, get on train, change trains, get off train, bike to office. (5km ridden)
Heading home is a bit different, owing to restricted bike access to trains during rush hour. Bike to train station, get on train, get off train just before central station, bike home. (12km ridden)
On the up-side, bikes cost nothing extra. On the down-side, you cannot take them onto trains travelling in the peak direction during peak periods.

I drive to get to the local college, but that's only twice a week at the moment. Most of my work and coursework is done via phone and Internet.

I drive suburb to suburb (public transportation is not an option), but boy, do I miss working and living downtown. A three block walk to and from work? I'd take a paycut for that.

Usually, by private car to one train station, by a commuter line (Shoreline East)to a second train station, by a second commuter line (Metro North) to Grand Central, and by subway to (roughly) a block from my workplace.

Even though I live in the big city now, the public transport here sucks, so it's a couple hours on the highway 4 days a week for me and a day of telecommuting.

No commute for me; I'm self employed and work at home, thanks to Perl and the e-commerce phenomenon. Gotta love it!

I don't own a car any more (don't want one) and even if there were public transportation in our dinky little town I wouldn't use it, so if I had to commute it'd be on foot. That is, after all, why we have those long things below our ankles :-)

    What is the difference between

    Private automobile

    and

    Motorcycle or scooter

Usually, private automobiles (and taxis) have 4 wheels: one at each corner. Usually, motorcycles and motor scooters have only 2, on each end.
