You didn't specifically say if you wanted to write this for fun or not, but what you're looking for exists already. You probably want to search for 'media catalog' or something along those lines. Here's what I use: GTKtalog. Just out of curiosity, how can you have 1000s of CDs and not have a catalog yet? What do you do to find information now?
