Fellow Monks,

From browsing the second hand sections of online bookstores, it appears you can get a pretty good deal on some of the older versions of the Perl CD bookshelf.
You can get even get books not available in the current version 4.0 (Advanced Perl Programming, Perl for System Administration, Perl & XML, Perl & LWP, and Mastering Perl/Tk)

Below is a table I created, showing what's available in each version of the CD bookshelf. Where available, I've include a hyperlink for each book to it's perlmonks book review. It's a pity that Mastering regular expressions was only available in pdf format in version 4!

Even the latest Perl CD Bookshelf is out of date since we just updated Learning Perl and turned the second edition of Learning Perl Objects, References, and Modules into Intermediate Perl (due out in March).

I'm curious what they would put in the next one. Perhaps:

    • Programmming Perl, 3rd Edition
    • Perl Cookbook, 2nd Edition
    • Learning Perl, 4th Edition
    • Intermediate Perl
    • Advanced Perl Programming (Update:) 2nd Edition
    • Perl Best Practices

      • Advanced Perl Programming

      2nd Edition, I assume.

Sounds like a nice list. I wonder if it would need a new edition of Perl in a Nutshell.

And a free copy of Mastering Regular Expressions

      I'd buy that.
