Symbian Perl (S80) Anyone?

lwicks has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi all,
Has anyone here had a good play with Perl on Symbian S80 ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/symbianperl/ )?

Is anyone doing any actual development with it?

I am a Perl newb, with a Series80 phone, Perl installed and working. Am keen to throw some time at making it do something useful/fun, so a curious to see what others might have tried.

Sorry for pointing out the obvious, but did you try contacting the project admin? I see the last update is quite recent, precisely dating 2005-11-09. So that it should be active...
why is this obvious? The OP simply asked if other PerlMonks had played with the technology.

Strictly speaking you're perfectly right! It all boils down to about how strict you're willing to be in interpreting his request. Indeed if he's strictly interested in other "monks" playing with that technology, then my remark is likely to be at best marginally relevant for there's no a priori guarantee that the project admin is a member of PM nor that he even knows any that are also interested in the project itself.

OTOH it seems to me that, in a more reasonable way to interpret his request, he'd be rather interested in other people playing with that technology. In fact he also wrote:

Now, pointing him to the project admin should be somewhat obvious, since he's very likely to be interested in... ehm... the project and to know other who are.
