Design Changes

I am interested to see the design changes of perlmonks.org website over the years chronologically.

====

Update: My node got few negative votes and I am surprised. May be a little clarification would do good. The design changes of the software over the period of time is a good way of knowing the software. What I am asking are the incremental changes that happened with the site.
Few examples:

  • Added XML feed for node.
  • Added CSS for page viewing.
  • Added download code for each <code> tag.
Update 2: (10/26): From the voting, it looks like that lots of people are interested in details, few may have not like the words I used for the request. If idea is to develop the "long term software", an existing model of our own, would be a very good for study. I sincerely admire the architecture and the development of Perlmonks. Thanks everyone for the replies.

All of the interesting design changes have been announced right here, in this section.

So, just winnow out the ones you don't find interesting. No, I'm not interested in trying to do that for you.

And I'm interested in a pony.

Sorry, I don't actually want a pony; I'm simply trying to offer up another equally vauge and unanswerable question. You've given a hint of what you're interested in but you've left things so wide open it's (as you can see by the voting) pretty much unanswerable. Perhaps you could clarify, for example . . .

    • I'm interested in the use of ponies in developing perlmonks; where can I find the source code repository or CHANGES files for the current code?
    • I'm looking at breeding a pony of my own and I'd like for some of the current developers to comment on how they've changed their view of equine husbandry while working on perlmonks
    • Is there a short history of who's worked on perlmonks and what contributions they've made available? I'd like to contact them and pick their branes (about perlmonks, not ponies).

(Again, no pony; my garage is too full as is and I hear they have a really hard time hanging from those ceiling mount bicycle racks)

Our patch system keeps a detailed changelog of sorts -- or at least something that can be thought of as one. However, we don't keep track of user-visible changes in any purticular way, and the reasons logged probably won't make much sense without a good knowladge of the internals.

...and now that I think about it, you are a member of pmdev; go to patch lister, select all of the names in "applied by", and hit "filter". Read away.

(Hopefully this hasn't been superceeded by later posts since I wrote it -- I just woke up and noticed I never hit submit last night.)

If I made a mistake, please let me know (such as by replying to this node).

For a simple request like this maybe you would be/would have been better served by sending a /msg to either the gods or pmdev. Whether they would allow you to see this, or if it even exists, I don't know.

The thing about it is that I'm sure that more than one person would be interested to see this sort of information. I know that I'm curious...
