Save File As --filenames

Hi, I just noticed something which has been annoying me for awhile. I'm using Mozilla 1.7.11 on linux. When I want to save a node, I usually select the "print/w/replies" link and get the nice page for saving.

Here is the glitch. When I'm logged on as 'zentara', the filename which appears in the Mozilla-file-savedialog is 'index.pl.html'. However, if I am an anonymous monk, the correct filename is there, like "sharing a hash of hashes between threads.html". I tested this on node 468818.

Do others see this, or is there some setting I'm missing or some weird configuration on my local machine?

    I see it too.

It looks like it depends on the URL used to access the page. Visit each of these links and then try saving them, see if you get the same results that I do (if these URLs use a different domain than you usually do, you won't stay logged in):

    index.pl.html
    This one works!

The only difference is the "index.pl" in the URL.

Update: I'd suspect that if you took index.pl out of whatever bookmark you use as your entry point to perlmonks, the issue would disappear.

BTW, I got these results on Firefox 1.0.7, Mozilla 1.7.11 on Debian unstable.

    Update 2: edited first update

Thanks, your example clarifies the problem. I see the same results as you, it's the 'index.pl'. However, it's not a question of getting it from my bookmarks, because I save to files.

So I guess the question is whether the perlmonk's cgi script can be changed to remove the 'index.pl' from the url it sends, without breaking something else. I can access the same node without the 'index.pl' in the url, so maybe it's not even needed?

Perlmonks doesn't (hasn't for a while) put "index.pl" into URLs. It uses URLs like "?node_id=495872". Your browser is adding the index.pl. So stop using whatever link or bookmark that has "index.pl" in it and index.pl won't show up.

You could also add a "index.pl-remover" to your Free Nodelet via [href:///?node_id=`id`|outdex] (outdex), for example.

I'd mention an useful tool for page archiving : ScrapBook. It's a firefox extension, and it's incredibly useful to keep pages offline and well organized.

Solved....thanks everyone. After Tye pointed out that perlmonks hasn't used index.pl in it's url for some time, I decided to look at my bookmarks. I had an old bookmark that still had the 'index.pl' in it, to take me to my login page. So everytime I logged in, the 'index.pl' got carried thru to every link.....doh!!!!

How long have I needlessly suffered thru manually renaming all those "saved pages".

On the latest version of Firefox (not beta) on Linux, logged in, I get the node title.

On Mozilla 1.7.12, the same as above. Must be just you ;-)
