Monks,

Recently I have pondered creating my first mod. Since I presently have limited coding ability I have decided to create a mod of the acme/humorous variety. I thought of several module names with random functionalities.

Mac::Dad - I thought of this one on fathers day. This mod will act a bit like the geekcode mod. A user is prompted for answers to about 20 questions about his or her father. The mod will then generate the fathers personal mac address. Obviously there will be a routine to decode it.

Stephi::Graph - I really like this idea. This is a single element graphing mod that allows for the creation of simple two dimensional ASCII graphs. The Y axis however will contain an ASCII image of a girl. Her nose size will serve to determine the value on the X axis.

Acme::Jive - (may already be created). Simply reads in a string and returns the string in Jive format.

Ass::Crack - This mod just may be my most useful. It will accept as input a forum question. It will determine if the questions is of the "please do my assignment/homework for me" variety, and create an appropriate response.

Let me know if you like any of the ideas. I also look forward to seeing some of yours.

    God kills a kitten every time you upload a humourous module which is not useful to the CPAN and don't put it in Acme::*.
      Speak for your own God. My God kills a puppy (not a dog man/woman/person i guess).

        Mine doesn't kill anyone, but discourages people from using perl in real-world applications.

    Acme::PHB
    Functionality:  Intercepts all email from Pointy Haired Boss;
                    selects (semi-)appropriate BOFH response;
                    transmits same.
    Requires:       Employment::Current,
    Known Bugs: Sometimes confuses SWMBO and PHB
    Pending: Sorry, routines to intercept telephone calls
                    and hallway encounters are not yet bugfree.

    pmcb2voice.pm

    Inspired by jdporter 2005-09-14 09:51:20-04
        "jdporter reminds himself not to implement that pmcb2voice module."

    Functionality: Transforms PM CB chatter to audio.
                    Selectable voices per participant.
    Requires:       Monastery::matters
    Known Bugs:     CB Participants
    Pending:        An "instant-retroactive-off" button for
                    the moment AFTER the PHB passes your door.

    "Let me know if you like any of the ideas."

    I don't know how much I like the ideas, but I sure do like their names!

      With apologies to Snoopy...

      Wouldn't that make it a SOPWith::Camel?

    Acme::Jive - (may already be created). Simply reads in a string and returns the string in Jive format.
    When you post something like that you may want to put an informative link there. Maybe it's just me, but I don't have the slightest idea what "Jive format" could be and a quick Google search doesn't seem to shed enough light on it.
    Ass::Crack - This mod just may be my most useful. It will accept as input a forum question. It will determine if the questions is of the "please do my assignment/homework for me" variety, and create an appropriate response.
    If you really can do that, then definitely it should not be an Acme:: module...
      Surely you've seen the movie Airplane?

      No, I haven't. And don't call me Shirley.

        Yes, I have. But don't call me Shirley in any case. Oh, and I saw it in Italian. I can remember the "combacka - siddonna" flashing lights though...
      As per the the movie Airplane here is an example of Acme::Jive.
      Input:The chicken wasn't cooked correctly and now I am sick.
      Output:Some mofo belayin butta down to da bown be jackin me up.
      Jive is a kind of dialect. Almost its own language.

        Kind of reminds me -not unexpectedly- of Jim's dialogues in "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", which I had the unfortunate idea of reading in English as a young boy (I'm Italian!) but which I every now and again I re-read, since incidentally I still consider it to be one of the best books of I ever read, not to say the archetype of modern American travel fiction!
      quick Google search doesn't seem to shed enough light on it.
      Try this for a taste. If you add "lex" to your Google search for "jive", you'll get pretty relevant hits. Oo, how about the Wikipedia entry on it?

      Caution: Contents may have been coded under pressure.
      I also just lost all my faith in google.

    I've been pondering Perl::ReadMyMind, for when I'm out of debugging ideas and I just think the proggy should do what I want it to do, not what I told it to do...

      Didn't somebody already do this?
      I just did a quick super search, but couldn't find it.
      But I swear I've seen it before - perhaps somebody knows where it is?
