Favourite modules of 2006

Dear master Monks,

As per brian_d_foy's suggestion, I have changed the nodes title.

So, what do people want their favorite module to be in the next year?

I have been reading Favourite modules March 2002 and Favourite modules April 2003 by Juerd, and was wondering how, if at all, that these top ten have changed for people in two years?

(not counting pragmata, strict and such - as per Juerd's original post)

      What!?!

      That's what the "next" button is for in "search". I do apologise Juerd and everyone else concerned.

      Doh!

    I am still waiting for Acme::Client::MindControl to come along. Specifically I need Acme::Client::MindControl->read to figure out what they really want and can't seem to put into words, and Acme::Client::MindControl->write so I can convince them of what they really want.

    And lastly, I know this might be asking too much, but I'd like Acme::Client::MindControl->release(endorphin => $amount) so that they will be happy with whatever I end up building for them.

      I think the cruicial code would be something like this:

      @needs = Acme::Client::MindControl->needs; @wants = Acme::Client::MindControl->wants; map {@needs} @wants; Acme::Client::MindControl->write(@wants);

    Since we've already done the favorite modules thing for this year, maybe you can change your query to "Favorite Modules of 2006" to find out what people want their favorite module to be in the next year. :)

    Personally, I'd like some SOAP and XML modules with interfaces that don't require a lot of typing. :)

    Heh, I already had a 2005 edition. These are always nice threads, but I think it's better to have a year in between than to ask again after only a few months.

    Thanks for liking the threads though :)

    My decision is not very difficult, as I didn't use much modules. Out of those, I chose those that solved exactly what my problem was. Other modules I don't list here might also be very good, it's just that they do something else than my task. The main point in evaluating them is whether I like the interface of the module or not, many modules I used are not here because they failed this criterium.

    Thus, here are my favourites:

    1. File::Temp
    2. XML::Twig
    3. LWP
    4. Getopt::Long

    I hope PPI will have become a favorite module of mine in six months.

    Also, hopefully I've written something using Catalyst and ended up pleased with the result.

    A contender in the small-utility-module category is IO::String which saves the day when dealing with modules which have a scalar-challenged interface and only accepts file handles for input/output.
