Marsupials are an order of species under the class mammalia (mammals) found only in Australia.

Not quite. The (O)Possum is indegenous to North America -- and my parent's back porch.

    The Possum is a nocturnal and omnivorous marsupial. It is widely distributed in its native Australia and has been released into New Zealand.

    Opossums are the only North American marsupials.

      mm... Hardly anybody here in the US -- that I know, anyway -- stills calls them Opossums. For all practical purposes the North American animals are called Possums now, expcept maybe in some scientific circles.
