YAPC::2001?

Hello Fellow Monks!

Well, the end of another year is fast approaching and many of us are are probably beginning to look at and plan for 2001. One of the events that I'm looking forward to hearing about is YAPC::2001.

I've looked at The Yapc Website and so far there doesn't seem to be a venue selected. I've learned a great deal from attending this great conference (both times).

Does anyone have any information about what may be planned or even rumours that could be shared with everyone?

Maybe even a vote (purely for fun) on the preferred location? The choices seem to be:

  • Montreal
  • Boston
  • Washington DC
Hopefully, this will generate some discussion....

Mick

And don't forget YAPC::Europe. Last I heard, Amsterdam.pm were favourites to be hosting that next year.

If it was in Montreal I might consider going, since it's fairly "close" and my money won't lose half it's value while I'm there. Come to think of it, all dem dar yanks would probably love to have it Montreal for the reverse of that reason.

How about Mountain View, CA? Lots of bandwidth, Larry wouldn't have to travel that far (he lives in Sunnyvale), it's near my house, and we could all play pool afterwards at Shoreline Billiards.

TPC is already on the West Coast (San Diego next year) , so there is really no need for an other conference in the area. YAPC started up as a cheap conference on the East Coast for those whose company would not fork out the $3000 it costs to go to TPC, let's keep it this way.

I'd vote for Boston, Jon Orwant would not have to travel that far (he lives in Cambridge), it's near my former house and we could play pool afterwards at Flat Top Johnny.

I'm rootin' for Montreal. Of course, considering how wet behind the ears I happen to be, my opinion should amount to something next to zero.

According to Damian Conway, The venue has been selected (tentative?):

June 13, 2001 at McGill University in Montreal.

Just figured I would share this little tidbit...

FYI.. this hasn't been formally announced yes by YAS. So, don't make any travel plans until the formal announcement, JUST IN CASE something goes wrong.

      Cheers,
      KM
