in reply to I usually listen to...

I've got a USB key drive that I carry around with my favorite tracks. Looking over the playlist, I've got:

  • A rock remix of the James Bond theme
  • A few Evanescence tracks (American pop)
  • Various styles of electronica (Paul Okenfold, Amanda Ghost, Cynic Project, Moby, Darude, James Grote, Sasha)
  • Two-Mix (Japanese Pop, did the Gundam Wing themes)
  • Tank! (the jazzy opening to Cowboy Beebop)
  • Mohammad Reza Shajarian (a Persian composer who likes to use western instraments)
  • Various classical (Samuel Barber, St. Lubin, John Williams, Pachelbel)

So just what am I supposed to choose here?

I'm in the same boat. When you have Ween, Scott Joplin, and Pantera in your music collection, where do you vote? My family has several musicians who play different styles of music, so I grew up loving everything.

I'm voting rock, though, since that's most of what I have. The best CD I've bought in the past year, though? Befriended, by The Innocence Mission. Probably classified somewhere between "alternative" and "folk". My wife found it and I didn't want to buy it at first, but no music has made me as happy as that one CD.

I listen to mostly Japanese pop as well (have several anime sound tracks too including Cowboy Bebop and Gundam Wing)....but I hate American pop so Rock Lobster was out, though the Cowboy Bebop reference (I'm betting accidental) did make me pause for a moment. Instead, I choose Country|Folk, cause I love the old greats like Johnny Cash and Charlie Daniels Band :).
