Switching doc:// from www.perldoc.com to perldoc.perldrunks.org

As http://www.perldoc.com is a yoyo, can we switch the doc:// links to http://perldoc.perldrunks.org? I like its interface better, to boot. :-)

I just thought to myself, "Blast, it's down /again/? I thought the hosting move was supposed to fix that! Oh well, I guess it's time for me to change it over." Then I loaded perldoc.perldrunks.com, to find the approps places to hook to, and what do I find? DNS error, it's not there. Update: Which is a bit unsurprising, considering it's perldrunks.org</ Warning: Unless otherwise stated, code is untested. Do not use without understanding. At the moment there isn't a search engine on perldoc.perldrunks.org - this is something that wll be added in the future, but I can't promise any timescales ($WORK and /pub always get in the way... :-) Could you make perldoc:// link to a Google advanced search with site=perldoc.perldrunks.org instead? Are you interested in getting help with search engine? I would gladly contribute perl code to index and search perldrunks using swish-e. I could even host search engine on my site if installation of swish-e on perldrunks is problem. 2share!2flame...	[reply]

Good point. We should also beg the question, why does perldoc go down so much as it is? Lack of resources? Software issues? Being a developer of commerical applications, I've learned it will take a LONG time before a large percentage of users will have their links changed over. Same here. I'd love to see `docs.perl.org` hosted on the same rack as (one of?) the other machines on that domain once the Perldrunks generator is available. Makeshifts last the longest.	[reply]

It seems that by the time I am writing this, a doc://foobar link already links to perldoc.perldrunks.org, so thanks to whoever has changed it. However, perldoc://foobar still points to www.perldoc.com, which is probably intentional. I didn't even know about the doc: pseudo-protocol until I've read this thread.	[reply]

Update: All perl documentation links at PerlMonks now go to http://perldoc.perl.org/. The only exceptions would be links in old monk postings. We're building the house of the future together. Update (2009-07): `doc://` links go to perldoc.perl.org, but `perldoc://` (which is used for searching) now uses the Goog to search the perldoc.perl.org site. `mod://` and `dist://` are unaffected; they still go to CPAN.
