Hello and welcome to my page on Perkmonks.

If you're interested in knowing a little more about me then please read on, alternatively I would suggest this might be more interesting!

I've been working on the web since finishing university in 2002. My degree was in Computing and Information systems, and while it did cover some basic web modules, it wasn't until I started my sandwich year at a small company in Bath called Eduserv, that I really got a love for the Internet and building websites and online applications. I can't thank the Eduserv guys enough - they are a great team.

It was working at Eduserv where I was first introduced to the wonderful language of Perl. (Again we had covered it on a module at uni, but it left me feeling pretty unimpressed at the time).

Since then I went on to use Perl to complete a web robot project for my final year dissatation which was very well received (I got 84% woohoo!) and made sure I got a good 2:1 degree - which considering the amount of fun I had at uni, I was very happy with!

Since then I've been dilegently working in a variety of web developed jobs, including a stint as a software engineer in Reading building applications in Mason.

As well as building sites for other people I've also built a number of online communities and websites for myself including a uk shopping website called http://www.uk-compare.co.uk. The site has recently been relaunched and I'm particularly proud of the price comparison and community shopping features. I just love the way you can pull content in via XML and create entire websites out of it, all mashed up... genius and lots of fun to work with and create something new and original.

So that's my latest update, if you'd like to know more please feel free to drop me a line at the site above.

Tom
