in reply to is Net::IRC dead?
A few thoughts:
- The latest POD for Net::IRC v0.75 doesn't indicate anything. However, the links to project documentation / mailing list(s) are all 404. That, in itself, doesn't mean much.
- The last release was about 10 months ago. Again, that in itself doesn't mean much.
- If you want, you can probably take over the project. I did that with PDF::Template and it's worked out quite well.
- If I wanted to work with IRC, I'd be pretty pissed off if I had to use POE to do it. POE is nice, but not a panacea.
- There's nothing stopping you from grabbing a copy of the source and hacking on it, even if you don't release your changes back to CPAN.
Being right, does not endow the right to be rude; politeness costs nothing. Being unknowing, is not the same as being stupid. Expressing a contrary opinion, whether to the individual or the group, is more often a sign of deeper thought than of cantankerous belligerence. Do not mistake your goals as the only goals; your opinion as the only opinion; your confidence as correctness. Saying you know better is not the same as explaining you know better.
