in thread Agile programming a skill?

extreme programming = programming at the north pole

agile programming = programming with 1 foot behind your head

now this really is a ridiculous topic:)

This stuff is all development project/communication/change management which all require/are skills. You usually need a team, a boss and a client for it. Course you can do some bits of it on your own, any programmer can refactor, release often and use unit tests.

The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation. -for the lone programmer a mirror may be of use here

Update:My ex boss thought 'extreme programming' sounded too unprofessional and well just to Xtreme man. hence s/extreme/agile/g at our company and managerial images of programmers being flexible

Your ex-boss is not alone. I've always though of the term as completely opaque and non-descript. I mean, if you heard the term for the first time ever, and had no idea what it stands for, what would you think “extreme programming” describes? Personally, I wouldn't have the faintest idea.

    Makeshifts last the longest.

Yeah its pretty funny when folk try and guess the meaning of tech terms. I think thats what happens when you put 'normal' words into things. My personal favorites of this phenonomem are 'Data Warehouse' and 'Data mining' everyone thinks they know what they are. Thats why abbreviations rule, no average joe is gonna start guessing at what 'XML' means. The converse of this is that people of scared of new things they dont understand, so to introduce something new just rename it.

I work in a data warehouse and my grandaddy sweated down the data mines
