How to control windows GUI applications from perl?

mp has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there any way to control windows applications from perl? I am trying to come up with a way to automate loading and storing of files in a windows program for which those operations are very slow.

I have done some google searching for an answer for this, but other than Win32::OLE, which I don't think this application supports, I've not been able to turn up anything.

Any ideas?

Win32::Setupsup, which is not available on the CPAN, but can be found at http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ courtesy of Randy Kobes.
