point 1: how do you know where the paragraph begins and where it ends to add the <p> tags?

point 2: if the user is supposed to add html tags by himself, don't add html on his behalf then.

What you are talking about now, and what I am refering to are two different things; you want an option that the user can select consciously and it will add tags for his post. I'm refering to adding tags by default for new users who don't know that they can format their texts in HTML so that <quote>"not-xhtml-aware posters could write clean posts to read."</quote>. That's what you refered to in your original post.

Point 1 : thanks to newlines, that is the definition of a paragraph. Point 2 : In fact I don't really care : what I'd like is to be able to read more good formated posts. Be it an option or not is not the most important point. To be clean, I'd tend to agree with you : the poster could choose if he wants to write in HTML or not. -- zejames	[reply]

I really don't think this will prompt anyone to be better at formatting text. On websites where linebreaks are added automatically, I've tended to see people posting great big unbroken blocks of text on a regular basis. I don't see that much here. I don't know if it's blind chance that the tendencies match up like that, but I'd rather not take a chance on suddenly having to sort through undifferentiated blocks of text. - apotheon CopyWrite Chad Perrin	[reply]
