The answer's probably going to depend on how you get your email. Do you use webmail? POP/POP3? IMAP? Unix mail (and if so, maildir, mbox, or Emacs' abomination)? If you don't know, the best place to start is probably the documentation for your email system. Once we know what you're dealing with, we can give better answers. :-) --
