It would be helpful (to me at least) if the list of nodes in the "Nodes you wrote" page could contain the number of replies to the node in addition to showing the node reputation.

Alternatively, it is possible that I have missed a perfectly obvious way of checking if any of my nodes have been replied to.

In the latter case I would be obliged if my fellow monks could enlighten me.

Update:
...and then i go to the user settings and find the option "/msg me when there's a reply to one of my posts". Still, it would be nice to have the reply count.

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

I rather agree, so long as it doesn't turn out to clutter up the table too much. The '/msg me' option is only good at the time the replies happen. You could just look at the thread, but you only get the reply count if your node was the top node of the thread, plus that's doing things one at a time.

If the goal is to go back and look at your nodes with no replies, adding this column would indeed be nice. You may even decide to update or reply to your own nodes when you find that your OP turned out to be some FAQ or you figured out a solution on your own.

Of course, one shouldn't expect replies to nodes other than thread-starters, so the reader will have to look for the absence of /^Re[\^\d:]/ in the subject line.

The '/msg me' option is only good at the time the replies happen.

As far as I know, the message from root saying you got a reply stays in the top of your chatterbox nodelet until you manually delete it.

I see replies all the time to nodes other than the OP. For instance Rhys, you should get a message because of this post, if you have /msg me turned on.

So I think /msg me works well, as long as all you are interested in is replies specifically to your node.

But I think a point can be made for having a count of replies, to any node in the thread, which I think is what HelgeG wants. I have made posts in threads where I either asked an additional question that doesn't get answered right away, or it's a thread I would just like to know if more has been added. If the forthcoming replies don't come for weeks, well, it's going to be tough going back through my list of Nodes I Wrote to manually check for replies, especially as the list gets longer.

Being able handle replies to any post in a thread could be hard to implement, though, I don't know.

Another problem arises, however. Just having a count of replies means I need to make a mental note of how many replies a thread has, so when I go back later to look, I can see if it's higher. That's another tough thing to do with a long list of Nodes I Wrote. Or even a short list, for those of us who suffer from CRS1. The way to solve that would be to be able to reset the count. More complexity that's probably hard to implement.

I think it's a good idea, not sure if pmdev would do it; but it never hurts to ask ;)

Although I recently found out that any one of us can write code for our own use (and to share) that can access the PM data in various ways. Maybe this is something that can be accomplished that way.

Yes, I know. But what I meant was that it's more of a one-time thing. After you delete that message - and who wants those hanging around? - there goes your only notifier. Plus it's still not a count, just a single notification. Different purpose.

Of course, one shouldn't expect replies to nodes other than thread-starters, ...

All I meant here was: Suppose you write a node that starts a new thread. If it gets no replies, that's interesting. But the if a reply does not itself have replies, that's not necessarily as interesting. The thread has to end someplace. :-) (we hope...)

So what I'm saying is, if the statistic existed, I would personally NOT consider it significant if a node I wrote had zero replies, if my node was a reply in the first place.

And yes, I agree that having the reply count for any node - not just the top node in a thread - is the most useful idea in all of this.

Excellent suggestion, in fact I had wondered why it didn't show this on a number of ocassions. I just didn't have the time to ask!

Whilst the /msg facility is nice, it would be great to have a reply count.

    I would like that too.

Maybe also a couple of entries showing the number of downvotes and number of upvotes, instead of just a single number of "reputation".

I think those would help to point out the ones that are merely ok (ie, slightly positive with no downvotes)
or rather controversial (slightly positive with many up and down votes).

How about a "date of last reply"? That would be helpful in figuring out if someone has replied to something recently.

I thought of the same thing, so you are not alone. Most community websites have similar setups, the lack of which reflects poorly on this one.

But I never bothered to bring up the suggestion, as you have. I know nothing would happen. (I have been beaten down too many times.) I have brought up other suggestions and have seen them quietly implemented by tye and others. But these were small, albeit important, things like adding extra html and text in certain places.

Perhaps pmdev should explain their goals, hierarachy, and methods better to the community, so we all have a better idea of where things are headed and why. Obviously many people care about this site enough to take an interest in its development, even if we are not directly involved in it.

      There is no hierarchy
