Although by no means a project of mine, I thought I'd mention Perl/Linux, a Linux distribution where nearly programs are written in Perl.

The only exceptions are the kernel, perl and libc.

What, no curses? What about a pager or man? Interesting, similar efforts have been made including the now defunct perlix.

If you manage to implement or concede an installation of X there's always PerlBox. It should be possible to implement a wide variety of mail systems using Mail::Box. Finally, I'd like to point out a cron; in perl and whichpm.

UPDATE: Other bits of interests are Dominus' units, and someone's calculator elca

It looks like most of the programs are taken from the Perl Power Tools. Given the resurgent interest in PPT, it would be good if the additional scripts that have been added were merged back in to the PPT distribution.
