Just a slashdot flash:

It had to happen eventually. CPAN has finally gotten the sloccount treatment, and the results are interesting. At 15.4 million lines of code, CPAN is starting to approach the size of the entire Redhat 6.2 distribution mentioned in David Wheeler's original paper.

XP for shameless redirection.. sorry bout that.. (no I"m not ;> )

15 milion lines? Don't forget that with Perl we can write things in 1 line that with C we will use 100!

In other words, the RedHat source has much of it in C/C++, and compare the number of lines between this 2 languages is just impossible! So, we need some fix rate, and probably this rate is gratter than 2, what make CPAN to have more than 30 milion of lines to can compare it with C.

An excellent and amusing point but don't forget that in the CPAN we can rewrite in 1,000 lines what someone else already wrote in 100. :) (I'm a huge fan of the CPAN).
