Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Greetings monks

I'm having no end of fun trying to get Crypt::Random installed - Math::Pari installs without any test failures, but C::R fails at testing. Googling brings up similar reports but no solution - anyone have any idea what the problem is?

I think it is probably to do with the version of Math::Pari or GP/Pari installed - I have had no problem with Math-Pari-2.010501 and pari-2.1.5

No problems for me either on RH 7.3, with Math-Pari-2.010501 and pari-2.1.5 with perl 5.6.2 and 5.8.3

    Oh well :(

I'm also using Math-Pari-2.010501 and pari-2.1.5, reinstalled from scratch and exactly the same problem. I wonder if it's a gcc issue?

    gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-110)

I think you might find that is the case - that version of gcc on RH was buggy in a number of respects IIRC

Indeed, especially since there was never an official gcc 2.96 release.
