I work for a telco. Our switch code is programmed in Pascal (at least in the countrys i work for/with pretty much anyway). Or was at one point anyway. Anyway, I agree with your point overall. (to be honest im replying without seeing which node youre replying to as i have a feeling i made an ass out of myself. part of growing up, but still... :-)
